UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE SUPERNATURAL

“(Jesus) rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. In FEAR and amazement (the disciples) asked one another, ‘Who is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!’” – Luke 8:24-25 NIV

“They found the man sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind, because the demons were gone. But the people were FRIGHTENED…and asked Jesus to leave them.” – Luke 8:35-36 NIV

Why does the supernatural power of God make us uncomfortable? In these two stories God deals with things that scared people to death – a life-threatening storm and an unstable, naked psycho living in a graveyard – and after witnessing His miraculous power the people are afraid of the God who delivered them from their fears! Go figure.

We want a supernatural God, but then when He does something supernatural, it makes us uncomfortable. Like the disciples, we freak out; or the Gerasenes, we ask Him to leave.

But if God is not supernatural, He’s not God. And when you’re going through a difficult time – when the doctor says ‘it’s cancer’, when your son or daughter is hooked on drugs, when someone you love is in a tragic accident, or you need a financial miracle – you want the God who calms storms and casts out demons!

He is not afraid of the things we fear because His power is greater. So don’t freak out or push away from the supernatural nature of God. Embrace it. Expect it. And when the storm comes, be thankful He is with you.

THINK ABOUT IT: Does it make you uncomfortable to be in an environment or around people who believe in and expect God to do miraculous, supernatural things? Why/why not? What can you do to let go of unhealthy fears and instead, embrace God’s supernatural power?

Quote of the Week (3/27/25):

"You may be at the point of giving up. You've been in a fight - not just for days, but maybe for years..."

Maybe it's against your son or daughter's addiction. Maybe you've been fighting for your marriage. You're not just tired; you're exhausted. And your logical mind is telling you, It's hopeless. Give up the fight. I understand. And I empathize with your pain and struggle. But don't drop your sword. And don't give up! Because our God is a restorer of stolen property!

                          - Circle of Swords, Chp 8:

                         FIGHT FOR YOUR FAMILY
